Welcome Home My Florida!
An Offering
of
Health!
Everywhere I look these days, the healthy lifestyle is defined as meatless and dairyless. HEY! I'm from IOWA
for crying out loud! Raised on steak, potatoes and fresh milk... How am I suppose to handle the insanity of it all?

Diary of a Woman Part IV
Deborah Sheehy http://www.welcomehomemyflorida.com
A continuation of rolling back the clock and regaining health, energy
and being in the best condition of your life.

From Oprah to my local newspaper... healthly food
choices no longer include meat and dairy. I was raised
on a farm with meat and milk at every meal, pork fat as
a delicacy and non-pasturized, fresh milk strained by
one small filter. Cream was skimmed from the top and
it was ready to roll into my morning glass. Ugh! The
thought of all that fat makes my head spin! But give up
meat and dairy all together? I don't think so.

But I'll give you this much. I just visited the grocery
market and bought nothing but salad greens,
tomatoes, sprouts, you know... all the summer salad
stuff, some dried beans, nuts, dried corn, yada yada
yada... and I do 'feel' better already!

fortunate enough to find

believe you can go
wrong.
Jordan's Tip of the Day
From the author of "The Maker's Diet"
Don't Be Afraid of Dirt

Parents do everything they can to keep their kids from getting dirty, but in reality, our
environment is much too clean! Immune cells that are not exposed to naturally occurring
soil microbes tend to overreact when they finally come in contact with them. Too many
adults and children have been denied this much-needed exposure. The immune systems
of children and adults are overreactive because they are no longer being properly "educated"
on the biological playground of life.

To make matters worse, we oversterilize everything with disinfectant dishwashing, hand soaps, and shower gels; disinfectant body
lotions and skin bars; and "deodorant soaps" loaded with antibiotic disinfectants such as triclosan. And we sterilize our soil using
pesticides and herbicides that destroy beneficial and harmful microbes alike. These substances harm the immune systems of all
living things, including the very plants we try to "improve" with our technological advancements.

Our immune systems need regular exposure to naturally occurring soil organisms for long-term health! If I child isn't exposed to soil
organisms early in life, his or her immune system may seriously overreact when exposed to completely benign intruders later in life.
Loosing touch with our planet has had an unfortunate consequence: It has contributed to the development of allergies, autoimmune
diseases, and certain types of asthma in children and adults alike.

Fabulous and Fit!
Here's what I won't give up... My cottage cheese, my fat free milk, and at at least one type of
cheese for my salads... This week I've chosen Feta (tomato & basil) cheese to spice up the
salad. And I'm ok with this... as long as...
once or twice a month I can sink my teeth into some
really tender, juicy meat or roasted chicken. Oh my gosh... my mouth is watering just thinking
about it!

I'm doing some serious thinking about how what I eat effects how I feel and I've got to be
honest here
. During the 21 day fast last month, I did feel better. I wasn't sluggish after eating. I
didn't get that awful bloated feeling and I had a bit more energy.
So what's the problem? The
problem is I've been able to eat whatever I wanted all my life and as long as I worked out an
hour a day, I was fine. But today, at 50 years of age... well, life just isn't the same. I've come to
realize what many of us have to face and that's owning up to the fact that our bodies aren't
doing as well as we had hoped... and it's kind of like... dahhhh. I've always heard that certain
foods weren't good for you, but did I listen? NO! Today I'm paying for it as we all do.

I'm doing some serious looking at Biblical standards to teach me how to utilize natural, green,
organic foods that God gave us to live long, healthy lives. Brother! Why didn't I get it twenty
years ago? Maturity I suppose... that great thing that 'usually' comes with age. It's here. I'm mature. Or so I think.

Here's yet another glimpse of why I'm headed to becoming at least a part time vegetarian...
The title of this article is
"Get Your Gut Balanced and Get Well!  Suffering from stomach troubles? The best way to quickly replenish and
stabilize friendly bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract and develop a balanced immune system that reacts only as
needed is to regularly
ingest live, fermented, probiotic-rich food and supplement with homeostatic soil
organisms.
" from Biblical Health Daily

OK... (live, fermented, probiotic-rich food and supplement with homeostatic soil organisms) What the heck is THAT??
I did a
google on those exact words and came up with Hallelujah Acres Diet & Lifestyle®... I've written to them to see
what they're all about. Biblically based, and straight from the founder's mouth: "“Dear friend, we can maintain a
healthy body, along with a young body and a sharp mind if we so desire. It is within our power because God has
placed that power in our own hands."

Hey, they've got my attention, so here's what I'm up to. I've written to them to see if they can give me some more idea
of what they're all about and I'll be doing a follow-up for next month to let you know if what they're sharing is the
wealth-spring of living. Check them out with me and let's see what we can learn.

I don't know about you, but I'm REALLY over being 50! I was GREAT in my 40's but this 50's business is kill'n me! I'm
not liking the natural progression of loosing my eyesight, having to cross my legs whenever I laugh... (or look left),
puffy ankles and sagg'n eyes! And the jowl... What happened to my jawline?

I keep a photo of my grandma close by these days. She was a woman, living in a time where growing older was just
that... growing older. It wasn't frowned upon, it wasn't hidden, it wasn't masked, it just was. She grew older gracefully,
naturally and beautifully. I wish America was today as it was then. Today I just want to grow old QUIETLY!
