Get Fabulously Fit for Life!
Diary of a Woman Part III
Deborah Sheehy http://www.welcomehomemyflorida.com
A continuation of rolling back the clock and regaining health, energy
and being in the best condition of your life.
For the last few months I've started and stopped and
started again, a couple of things that should boost my
metabolism, thus creating a weight loss. The problem
is that it's not working. So I had to HONESTLY look at
what I was doing because I should have dropped some
fat by now.
What I realized when HONESTLY looking at my pattern
of working out, I found inconsistency. In my mind I was
working out 5 to 6 days a week. In reality it was more
like 3 to 4 days a week... Not enough for a woman of
my age to get into shape or to make any changes in
my physic.
Karen Voight Once I had mastered the tapes from Denise Austin, I was ready to bump it up a bit and was fortunate enough to find Karen Voight. She's straight forward, focused, deliberate and will define your body like no other. I got in terrific shape when following her routines. She has cds for all levels. If you need to put some freshness into a workout, try her cds. I don't believe you can go wrong.

Jordan's Tip of the Day
From the author of "The Maker's Diet"
Grains: Then and Now
While modern techniques for harvesting crops have made food production much more
efficient, they have also decreased the nutritional value of our food. Older harvesting
techniques helped preserve and enhance the nutritional value of grain, for example. After
cutting mature grains in the field, farmers would gather the stalks and loosely bind them
upright in sheaves and let them stand overnight before threshing them (removing the actual
grain from the grass stalks). This allowed the grains to germinate or sprout.
Germination initiates a chemical transformation in the seed grains that naturally neutralizes the enzyme inhibitors the Creator put on
the seeds' exterior. During this process, the seeds are activated and enriched, making all the nutrition within the seed available for
digestion. These germinated seeds of wheat and barley and the bread made from them were extremely important in biblical times.
This living "staff of life" supplied easily digestible, life-giving carbohydrates.
However, the people of the Bible ate significantly less food than we do today, and they ate far fewer carbohydrates. For example, it was
common for people in biblical times to eat only one meal a day, and the grains they did eat were healthy, sprouted, or germinated
grains with small amounts of hard-to-digest disaccharides and phytates. All the health benefits of sprouted grains are available to you,
if you know where to look. Check your local health food store. Many carry sprouted-grain products.

Fabulous and Fit!
So what's the REAL problem here? I suppose it's lack of commitment... Wishing I was 20 years
younger and watching the lbs fly off simply by walking a mile a day. Ain't happening here now!
But what I've also noticed is how much weaker I am today verses back when I was working out
with weights. Everything I do today is done with a lot more 'thought' in every move as I don't
want to hurt myself! Blah, blah, blah.... What a wimp I've turned in to!
So I've decided to, once again, re-energize my thoughts, my actions and my plan to
strengthen my body for today... not as it was 10 years ago, but for today. I figure any
improvement is positive and if I can reach my goals of setting the clock back by 5 to 10
years... GREAT! If I can't... I'll end up with a stronger heart, stronger muscles and stronger
mind. Our body is a temple and I've managed to beat mine up pretty badly over the years, so
it's time I get serious and begin taking care of it by strength training, aerobic exercise, and
feeding it proper nutrients on a daily basis.
I recently took a 21 day spiritual fast where I was allowed only vegetables, fruits and nuts. It
somewhat frightened me to take on such a long obligation, but I was doing it for spiritual
reasons and I knew that God would see me through. What I found out about 'eating' during
that time is that comfort foods aren't all they're cracked up to be.
The first thing I noticed is a cleansing of the bowels and I do mean cleansing! I had no idea food could actually go
through a body as quickly as it did and without cramping or diarrhea.
From The Maker's Diet; "The colon is the number-one repository for oxidative stress in the body. We hear a great deal in the media
about oxidative stress and free radicals that can cause cancer, but very few of us realize that most of the free radicals in our bodies are
generated in the colon during the final stages of the digestion process! This explains why it is good to eliminate waste daily rather than
have it languish for days in the digestive tract, generating potentially harmful toxins all the while. "
Kind of makes you want to eliminate a bit faster than normal, doesn't it? Let me tell you, by sticking to vegetables and
fruits only, you'll see almost an immediate change in your elimination habits. For me, I was eating lots of spinach,
which all by itself provides a good cleansing, but on top of that, dark leafy lettuce, raw nuts, and learning how to eat
my fruit via smoothies (without cream or dairy) provided all the nutrition I needed, plus provided the perfect ground to
quick elimination.
I've never been a good nutritional eater... and what this fast did for me physically was show me how much I lacked in
proper nutrition, proper food choices and proper serving sizes. There were two other women who went through this
with me and they both learned a lot as well. We all agreed that it wasn't as difficult as we thought it would be and after
it was over, our normal 'comfort' foods didn't taste the same to any of us. We all have changed our eating habits,
getting in our veggies and fruit whenever we can as a normal part of eating now.
How did I make our smoothies? Simple. Take your favorite fruits, like a banana, a handful of blueberries, 4 or 5 good
sized strawberries, added to about 1/2 cup of juice and a cup or two of crushed ice all placed in a blender and
seconds later, voila! A smoothie. Apples, fresh pineapple, kiwi and papaya also blend well. We even put in
watermelon and that was so refreshing!
Our salads were dark leafy lettuces, cucumbers, tomatoes, bean sprouts, raw nuts and of course the dressing. If
there was any cheating going on, it could have been that I in particular only eat creamy dressings... But, I dropped
the amount I used by more than half of normal.
Because we're so accustomed to variations in our meals, the ONLY thing difficult about this fast was our imaginations
of (what's for supper?) were somewhat stumped. I mean, how many things can you do with spinach? But through it
all, we were glad we went on the journey.
As always, if you have medical conditions, always ask your doctor if something like this would be appropriate for your
needs.
