An Encouragement For Teachers
One of the easiest things to forget to do is to say "Thanks." One of the easiest
things to make others happy... is to say "Thanks." Even though school is just
getting started and it's not Teacher Appreciation Day, I want to encourage all
teachers with a big "Thanks." Being a teacher is one of the hardest, yet most
rewarding positions in the world and no
one can imagine the highs and low of
teaching until they've walked in those big
shoes. There is even a whole web-site
dedicated to Teacher Appreciation.
Did you know there is a World Teacher's Day? October
5th has been designated by the United Nations Education
Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as World
Teacher's Day. Let's not wait until Oct. 5th to say "Thanks!"
This was brought to you by my dear friend Karen Seddon, a veteran
Teacher and the greatest source of encouragement bundled up into
one person that I know! She's truly incredible! If you are a teacher
and would like to begin receiving her weekly newsletter, please let
her know by emailing her here: KAREN
Home-Made Fall Pumpkin
This is something that some of you have seen, I'm
sure. This pumpkin is made of a dryer vent for the
body, misc. Fall leaves we all have in a closet
somewhere and for the stem, it's simply a portion of a
paper grocery bag. Here's some tips! Start out with
about 24" of plastic dryer vent. Circle it and punch two
holes where they join and tie the two ends together
using jute. Priming the project with spray paint will help
acrylic paint adhere better. After it drys, I use:
Americana's PUMPKIN color found in any craft store.
You may need to use to coats. For the stem, tear about
8" square paper bag. Stick it in water to wet and
crinkle. Spread out, fold to about 4" x 8" and wrap it up
in a roll. This is where your creativity comes in... Mold
and form it and once you get the right shape, let it dry.
Once dry, get that trusty glue gun out, place glue right
in the center of the pumpkin, grab your stem and stick
it right in the center. Now... go to that closet or drawer
you've got your left over stems, leaves and flowers from
last Fall and design to your hearts content! This is a
fun project, easy and kids like to get involved as well.

A Time To Adore
"Young people are confused. We turn our children out in high-powered cars onto the highway of life without road rules,
road signs, guardrails, centerlines, and with faulty brakes and wonder why there are so many wrecks.... Your children
need love, appreciation, and guidance - love your children and let them know it."

Terra cotta flower pots make a bright and cheery pot for your favorite plants or whatever you want to use them
for. I have mine sitting on my patio table with my favorite flowers. In the winter I put artificial flowers or greenery so
my patio still looks cheery.
You can use just about anything you would like. Try using fabric, wallpapering, wrapping paper, old greeting
cards or even making it patriotic. I used seed packets for mine.
For this project you will need
* Terra-cotta pot
* Mod Podge decoupage medium
* Decorations of your choice
* Scissors with decorative edge
* Sunflower seeds
Cut out the seed packets with your decorative scissors. Arrange them on the terra cotta flower pots in the design
you want. Overlap them and you will need to cut them to fit. Paint the back of the packets with the mod podge and
put them on the pot. When you have the pot covered with the packets then coat the entire outside with decoupage
and let dry.
Using the decoupage, attach the sunflower seeds. When dry, paint the entire outside with 1 more coat of
decoupage and allow to dry. You now have a finished terra cotta flower pot.These terra cotta flower pots really
look nice when you use material like you would a quilt. Cut different shapes and colors and cover the entire
outside. Patriotic pots can be done in red, white and blue material with stars and strips.
Use your imagination and you can come up with all kinds of ways to decorate your clay pots. You can paint them
a very light blue and then paint flowers on them. If you can't paint flowers you can always get decals to put on the
pots. There are many beautiful decals on the market and they look like your have painted them yourself.
